During the operating period the Kalahari is warm to hot during the day and mild to cold at night. During mid-winter nights can be very cold. Rain is very rare and the days mostly cloudless.
Generally speaking, Botswana is probably one of the safest countries, if not the safest country in Africa to visit. It is politically stable and has a small population, most of whom live in the south and in urban areas.
